The proper diet for glowing skin

I know it’s all very cliché to say, “you are what you eat” –but the truth is, you really are! If you want great skin, you have to give your body great nutrition. Skin is the largest organ of the body, and like all organs, they are our guides to telling us whether we are in good health or not. If your skin is looking dull, oily or dry, this is more than a beauty problem, it is the body trying to tell you that something else is wrong. When we are young these things don’t phase us, but if we take care of them when we are young, we will not only prevent health issues from arising when we get older, but we will also have younger looking skin as we age. Hello? Don’t we want to look as young as possible for as long as possible? If you can look 25 when you are 35, or 40 when you are 50, then why not eat well now! Why do you think celebs are all into healthy eating?

So if your skin is dry, the first thing your body is telling you, is that you are not drinking enough water, or perhaps not enough good quality water. This could also be a sign of a high salt (sodium) diet, which causes the body to get dehydrated, and also causes dark circles. If this is you, then you betta reco-nize and start drinking more water, and good quality filtered water at that. Your best bet is actually alkaline water, which is also fluoride-free. This water might be a little more expensive… but my question is, why do we find it ok to spend a fortune on a chai latte at Starbucks, but have issues forking out the dinero for good quality agua?

If your skin tends to be oily, well sister you need to check out what you are eating? Are you eating an oily diet? Remember what goes up must come down, and what goes in must also come out! So, work on cutting out oily foods. Now many people assume that oily foods refers to fries and fried foods, but other foods such as cheese, meat, cakes and many of the carbs are oily as well. Just because it is not dripping in oil, does not mean it is not oily. Your skin (and body) are begging you for plant based nutrition if you have oily skin. So get on the green juices, replace fries with steamed veges, and find some healthy desserts and snacks to replace the one you currently eat. Don’t think of this as food suicide though… remember that if you add spices, chilli flakes, garlic and onion salt, Himalayan salt and things like this to your veges and other plant based meals, you will not feel like you are missing out as your food will still be hella tasty! You can also add some olive oil –just a tad—to bring out the flavor.

At the end of the day, what we are learning as time goes on, is that a plant-based diet is not only best for our skin, waist lines and overall health, but even for the animals and the environment, which is why so many celebs are turning vegan or vegetarian nowadays –just check out the list of vegan celebs below, and you’ll see how many have made the switch! The other thing with a plant-based (aka vegan diet) is that it is also a very alkaline diet. In terms of safe guarding your future against illness and weigh gain, alkaline eating and drinking is the way to go. When a body is acidic it tends to hold on to the fat in various parts of the body, and also makes for the perfect environment for cancer and other disease to

prosper. However, that being said, many people who are vegan do give it a bad name, by not knowing how to eat properly. You can pretty much eat the same way as anyone else, as there are vegan options of everything out there… mac and cheese, pepperoni, cupcakes, you name it! So you won’t be missing out.
