Frames and face shape

There is a tried and true “recipe” for finding your way to sunglass heaven. It is a little involved, but it is exactly what you need to do if you want to know that you are walking around looking cool and not looking like a wannabe celeb.

A lot of people think they know what face shape they have, but many people are often getting it all wrong, so once and for all let’s get the facts right and be in the know!

To begin this part of the journey to the perfect frames, you must measure your face. That’s right! Get out the tape measures peeps! Begin by measuring below the eye at the top of your check bone, and measure over to the other side, and this will give you the width of your mid-face. Then measure your face length from the middle of your hairline, over your nose and to the bottom of your chin, followed by your jaw width from one end, over your mouth, to the other end. Then finally measure your forehead width from one side of your forehead’s hairline to the other, crossing over your eyebrows.

Now that you have all your measurements written down, you can then tell whether your face is round, square, oval, oblong, diamond, or heart shaped, and get down to the nitty gritty of finding out what are the best shades to show off your features. Below is the low down on your particular face type.

If you are rocking a round face try rectangle, square or wrap around shades to thin and sharpen the face. For those with square shaped faces, your best bet are the lucky aviators that Angelina rocks or cute butterfly frames. If you are lucky to be blessed with an oval face, you are blessed enough to wear any shape or design you like! Lucky ducklings! For the dazzling diamond shaped faces you have gorgeous cheekbones and a narrow jawline which will best suit oval frames, or even rimless frames, while your heart shaped friends will best be suited to glasses with rounded edges or even cat eye frames to elongate the face. Last but not least are our oblong face shaped friends who are lucky enough to be able to comfortably rock oversized glasses, thick frames and wayfarers.

So next time you are in the market for a new pair of shades, measure up, and then find that little piece of glam that will really suit you to a tee.
